Continuing West Through Colorado

Great Boondockers Welcome host in Delta, CO, and good Mexican food at El Tapatio. In Fruita, check out a Grand Junction Rockies minor league baseball game. Go to Kannah Creek Brewing Company before the game for happy hour, cheap drinks, and great happy hour food.

Delta, CO

After Black Canyon, we continued our journey west through Colorado. Our next stop was with Boondockers Welcome hosts in Delta. During our stay, we took a break from always being on the go and it was great! I have a hard time sitting still, but there was one day when I didn't leave the motorhome and may have stayed in my pajamas all day ;) Penguin had time to wash and put a wax + sealant on the Fiat and motorhome, thanks to the generosity of our hosts who let us on their property. Clean cars = happy Penguin! I finally got around to starting the project I had put off for months: listing my childhood collection of around 50 trolls on eBay.

Our hosts were so much fun! We had a great time getting to know them and had such a great stay. One night we had dinner at a Mexican restaurant in town named El Tapatio. My carne asada tacos were delicious, they picked us up some local cherries on the way back home, then we hung out and chatted the evening away. It was such an enjoyable evening and those cherries were so good! We ate as many as we could and I made a dessert bar with coconut, cherries, and chocolate. I froze the rest and those have turned out to be a great treat. I have always loved frozen grapes and these frozen cherries are even better. When it is hot outside (and it has been hot) they hit the spot.

Fruita, CO

Next, we headed to Fruita for a few days. While in Fruita we got a chance to check out a minor league baseball game, thanks to our hosts in Delta who gifted us two of their season tickets. The Grand Junction Rockies were playing Rocky Mountain. Before the game, we stopped at Kannah Creek Brewing Company for Happy Hour. They had cheap drinks and happy hour food. Penguin loved their “Smothered & Covered” which was tater tots and chicken fingers covered with Chile Verde. We had a great time at the game and loved that the food and drinks were all reasonably priced, nothing was more expensive than $6. We might have tried a little bit of everything :)

It was really nice to have some chill time before we start on our next adventure where we are visiting Utah’s five National Parks and one State Park in 11 busy days!
