Continuing South through California
We left the Redwoods and continued south on the Pacific Coast Highway (US 101) through California. Our next stop was Fort Bragg. I was nervous about the drive from Willits to Fort Bragg on SR 20 but we made it without too much trouble and we would do it again. After Fort Bragg, we decided to go around San Francisco so we headed to Benicia for an overnighter at a great little spot. Don’t have time to read this now? Pin it for later!
Fort Bragg
SR 20 from Willits to Fort Bragg was a slow going 30 miles of windy road but not impossible in our motorhome. It took us 1 hour and 20 minutes to make the drive, and it was definitely worth it.
We stayed at Harbor RV Park which had beautiful ocean views in the front row although it was a bit windy being right there on the water. They had a problem with under-voltage that kept tripping our surge protector anytime we put any load on it. After using it to test several of the open spots, we had to move to the second row which still had good views of the ocean and the 50 amp worked.

Visit MacKerricher State Park. The walk along the boardwalk was very pretty.
Glass Beach was a little bit of a disappointment but I did enjoy walking out on the rocks.
Unfortunately, we didn’t see a lot of glass pieces instead we found trash :(
Check out the awesome selection of smoked meat, sausage, fish, and cheese at Roundman's Smoke House.
Benicia
We didn’t want to drive the motorhome through San Francisco so we decided to go around. We stayed overnight at the Benicia EnRoute Camp at the Benicia State Recreation Area.
This was a little hidden gem in the Bay Area for only $12. It was the perfect spot for an overnight stay. The parking area filled up very early, so we moved our motorhome first thing out of our spot, and then we walked around. The Benicia State Recreation Area was very pretty, and a nice break in the busy Bay Area.
