2 Days in Portland (Eat, Drink, Explore)

We only had two days in Portland, Oregon so what did we eat, drink and explore in 48 hours? We checked out the Portland Farmer’s Market, ate at Blue Star Donuts & Coffee, and hiked Multnomah Falls to name a few. We share what we did and our Portland favorites including the best Asada Burrito we have had since leaving San Diego. Don’t have time to read this now? Pin it for later!

Portland Farmer’s Market

Our first stop was Portland Farmer’s Market (Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm). We all tried different things, so what did we have? I had a rice noodle bowl with beef. It was good and the warm broth hit the spot as I was cold, but it wasn’t the best I have had. Penguin had vegetable pizza and a Vietnamese steam bun, he loved the steam bun. He also bought some roasted mild peppers which he later added to hamburger meat for killer tacos. Our friends had a breakfast pizza that they really enjoyed, and Penguin wanted to try but he was too hungry and impatient to wait.

There were lots of vendors and everything looked good but unfortunately, we arrived late so we didn’t have a chance to try as much as we wanted. Make sure to give yourself more than one hour and get there early because some vendors ran out of things we really wanted to try.

Eat

We had a tasty hard cider apple fritter at Blue Star Donuts & Coffee, an awesome breakfast sandwich and burger at the very busy Brunch Box, the best Asada Burrito at the Taqueria inside Tienda Y Panaderia Santa Cruz, and some amazing tortilla chips, Juanita's Tortilla Chips.

Drink

We enjoyed the patio and some sun with a great beer from Ecliptic Brewing, felt like we were back at Oktoberfest at Prost! Portland, and checked out the local dive bar Portway Tavern.

Explore

Fall in Portland was beautiful! We walked around the neighborhood and enjoyed the vibrant red leaves and the beautiful fall colors. We listened to a great live band at Slim’s, drove through Forest Park and loved all the orange and red leaves, and visited Multnomah Falls on our way out of Portland.

We enjoyed everything that we did so you wouldn’t be disappointed with any of the things listed above but what were our favorites?

Portland Favorites

  1. The Taqueria in the back of the Tienda Y Panaderia Santa Cruz store had the BEST Asada Burrito we have had since leaving San Diego. This burrito would beat out some San Diego taco shops. It is delicious, cheap ($6), and huge (it is big enough to be two meals.) They had three or four kinds of salsa and pickled onions at the salsa bar. Their green guacamole salsa was spicy and goes perfectly on this burrito. It was so good that we had it twice and we will have it every time we visit Portland! Unfortunately, we didn’t get any pictures. We were too busy eating.

  2. Juanita's Tortilla Chips. There is something perfect about these chips and all the locals were recommending them. You have to try them if you have the chance! We bought ours at Safeway, but we’ve seen them all over. They are made in Hood River, Oregon. It only took a couple of days to destroy a bag of them with a local Oregon salsa.

  3. Multnomah Falls - Beautiful waterfall and with the leaves changing colors it made it extra special. It was an intense hike up with twelve switchbacks to the top but the pain is short (just over 1 mile) and worth it.
