Wisconsin: State #23
We only spent a short time in Wisconsin (four days in June 2022) stopping first at a small town called Thorp, WI (pop: ~1600) where we stayed with a memorable Boondocker’s Welcome host who upon arrival in a rainstorm drove out to our RV and gave us a welcome gift of cheese curds and some local salami. The next day after the weather improved, we had our first Amish sighting in the area where we saw several horse and buggies clopping down the road into town. We shopped at a local Amish butcher and got some groceries, and also popped in at one of the local bars named “Cindy’s”. We had at least a couple of rounds of drinks and some of the best french fries for a whopping $11 coupled with hilarious conversations with the friendly bartender and what we believe to be the local drunk. Good times!
Our next stop was so we could visit Green Bay. We stayed at a Boondocker’s Welcome host in nearby Seymour, WI whose claim to fame is “Home of the Hamburger”. Unfortunately, the town had just had some serious winds, the makings of a tornado that thankfully didn’t touch down, but it had done all kinds of random damage including knocking out the power and internet intermittently during our stay. We didn’t have a hamburger, since the best place was this restaurant at the local golf course that was closed due to power problems. We instead went on a day trip to Green Bay, and our own tour of the outside of Lambeau Field and some more walking at the very popular Bay Beach Wildlife Refuge and Bay Beach Amusement Park right next to each other.
