Things To Do in Durango, CO

We spent the month of March in Durango, CO at Alpen Rose RV Park and boy did we have some fun! We did a little bit of everything. Planning a trip to Durango? Check out this list of things to do.

Things To Do in Durango, CO

  1. Friday Night Prime Rib Special in Downtown Durango

    • We started off our stay in Durango by celebrating Jeri’s birthday at Ken and Sue’s which is now called 636 Main Ave. I believe they are keeping the menu mostly the same for now. Reservations are a must!

    • Delicious Prime Rib Special: 12oz. Prime Rib, Smashed Potatoes, Sautéed Garlic Asparagus, with Au Jus and a Side of Creamy Horseradish Sauce

    • Great specialty martinis, the angel food cake martini is delicious

    • The New York Style Cheesecake with a White Chocolate Ganache, topped with Grand Marnier Marinated Oranges blew our minds and we don’t typically like desserts

    • We were so impressed that we brought Penguin’s Dad when he visited so we could have that cheesecake again

  2. Skiing and Snowboarding at Purgatory Resort

    • When we arrived, there had just been a storm so there was great snow, no lift lines for the most part, and amazing weather! It did eventually warm up a bit too much and so after nearly three weeks of skiing three to four days a week, we turned in our gear.

    • One day, the Wolfwood Refuge brought wolf/dogs to the mountain for people to learn about and pet. We wanted to check out the wolf, but the line was long. We have some pictures below though!

    • In the pictures below you can see there was one calm wolf and another overly excited wolf

    • The waffle shop at the base of the mountain is really good!

  3. Relax at Durango Hot Springs

    • We had a great two hours of soaking in outdoor hot tubs of various temperatures. The surrounding snow was beautiful.

    • There is both a food truck and bar outside so we enjoyed a tasty spicy bloody mary and watched the same Durango Silverton steam engine that we would be riding on later go by

  4. Ride the Durango Steam Engine

  5. Check out the cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park

  6. Eat Fantastic Sliders from the Food Truck at the Nugget Bar

    • Finish off a great day of skiing with some outstanding sliders and cocktails! The bar is right next door to the base!

  7. Enjoy Happy Hour at Switchback

    • There are a great many reasonable-priced happy hours in Durango. We highly recommend The Switchback which also has a drink special of the same name! It is a shot of silver tequila, hot carrot pickle back and a 7 oz Coronita. We enjoyed the pickle back so much we’ve been trying to make our own recipe at home!

  8. Honestly, we didn’t have a bad meal so here are some of the restaurants we liked! Nayarit (Mexican), Himalayan Kitchen (Indian/Tibetan), El Moro Tavern (Steampunk bar/restaurant), Derailed Pour House (American), The Office Spiritorium (craft cocktails)
