Antebellum Mansions in Natchez Mississippi
After Nacogdoches, we left east Texas and crossed into Louisiana although our ultimate destination for the day was Natchez, Mississippi - one of the oldest cities in the US. We wanted to check out the old antebellum mansions, some of which are nearly 200 years old! Don’t have time to read this now? Pin it for later!
Vidalia, LA
It’s right on the border of LA/MS so we actually stayed on the Louisiana side at the Riverview RV Park in Vidalia which was probably one of the nicest RV parks we've stayed at yet. They had an all-volunteer staff, huge well-kept facilities including a pool & hot tub, a lush green park area along the waterfront with lots of tree cover, paved walking paths, etc. We could see and sometimes hear some of the barges floating down the river. The place was pretty busy with a large number of trailers and motorhomes staying since an adventure caravan was coming through.
Natchez, MS
That evening we drove into Natchez to walk around and see the old antebellum mansions in the downtown area. Many of the smaller one’s people still live in, some now host to daily tours. We found some great fried catfish and gumbo before heading back. The next morning we had our coffee and breakfast on a loveseat swing that the park had set up right on the river, pretty sweet!! Then we headed on to our next stop - New Orleans!
