Lotion Bars

INGREDIENTS

4 ozs Coconut Oil 4 ozs Cacao Butter or Cocoa Butter or Shea Butter 4 ozs pure Beeswax Pastilles 35 drops of Essential Oils Silicone Molds

INSTRUCTIONS

Heat coconut oil, cocoa butter, and beeswax pastilles together in a saucepan over low heat or in a crockpot. I prefer to use a crockpot with crockpot liners for easy cleanup.

The beeswax will take the longest to melt.

Once the beeswax, coconut oil, and cacao butter are melted, add essential oils.

35 drops work well for me. You may add more or less, just smell as you go.

Pour melted coconut oil and beeswax into lotion bar molds or muffin tins.

Let them sit until cool. You can also place them in the refrigerator if you need to speed up the process. I highly recommend you let them cool overnight. I thought mine were cool after a few hours in the refrigerator but they started to crack when I tried to get them out of the molds.

ESSENTIAL OILS

Some scents that might work well include lavender, vanilla, peppermint, and orange. Remember that the cacao or cocoa butter have a chocolate scent so you want your essential oils to work with that scent.

Other people have recommended frankincense and lemongrass.

OPTIONS

You could add 1 teaspoon vitamin E per 12 ounces of the bar for increased shelf life.

You can always make herb-infused oils.

SIZES

The size and number of molds you have will determine how many lotion bars you can make. If you have six molds, you can make six 2-ounce lotion bars.

BATCH 1

1: Gingerbread with Cinnamon

3. No essential oils

For my first batch, I did 2 ozs of each and made three bars. Poured mixture into lotion bars and then added 10-15 drops of essential oil per bar. Each bar was a different flavor. The third bar with no essential oils cooled faster and does not melt as easily as the two with essential oils. I am not sure if this is because I put the essential oils directly into the molds since I wanted to make different scents. Some essential oils went directly into the mold numbs and this caused the lotion bar to not get totally solid.
