Places to Stay in Klamath CA
Stop number two on our US 101 road trip was Klamath, CA. This spot was ideal for visiting the Trees of Mystery and my family in Crescent City. Looking for places to stay in Klamath with your RV? We recommend these spots: Redwood Hotel Casino and Chinook RV Resort. Don’t have time to read this now? Pin it for later!
Free Overnight Parking
We first dry camped in the Redwood Hotel Casino parking lot for two nights. They do require you to sign up for their Player’s Club and you spin the wheel to see how much free play you earn. I won $5 in free play while Penguin only won $3. That was the least amount of free play we have received at any of the multiple casinos we have dry camped at, but hey it is still free money.
This is a small one-room casino, but they did have fun slot games and a bar with a great happy hour. The restaurant was closed for the winter though. The parking lot was easy to navigate and there was plenty of space in the back for us where we were the only RV both nights. No AT&T signal and weak Verizon so we put up our directional antenna to pick up the free wifi coming from the hotel attached to the casino. Nothing special, but we would stay here again.
RV Resort with Passport America Discount
After five nights of dry camping, we were ready for full hookups. After some research, I narrowed it down to our two Passport America deals: Chinook RV Resort or Kamp Klamath RV Park & Campground. We drove pass both and decided on Chinook RV Resort.
Chinook RV Resort
We were only going to stay two nights at Chinook RV Resort but we had such a great time that we ended up staying three. Chinook RV Resort is on the Klamath River and we had a great view of the river from our motorhome. One interesting thing about the Klamath River is it has low and high tides as it feeds into the Pacific Ocean. Check out the pictures below to see the difference.
We liked the grassy sites at Chinook RV Resort. The weather was perfect and we were able to get some quality time outside in the sun with Tinkerbell. Plus there is nothing like a little afternoon nap outside. Another great thing about this RV resort was the camp host built a fire each night in the communal fire pit right on the river. The nights were chilly but the fire kept us warm, and there was not a lot of light pollution so we saw lots of stars which was awesome.
In a conversation, I had mentioned to the camp host that it was my birthday and they surprised me on my birthday with a cupcake cake and sang me Happy Birthday. That completely took me by surprise and a reflection of how awesome the camp host and owners are. We would definitely stay here again and recommend you stay at Chinook RV Resort if you are visiting Klamath.
Awesome Free Day Use Spot
On our way to Klamath from Trinidad, we stopped for a few hours near the beach along US 101 (see the map below) just south of Redwood Creek Picnic Area and Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center. This was a great free day-use spot right near the beach.
This was the first time the cats had seen the ocean and they were fascinated by the smell, sounds, and all the birds. Check out our video of Tinkerbell.
