Day Trip to Crescent City
Some of my family lives in Crescent City, CA so while we were staying in Klamath we planned a day trip to check it out. Wondering what to do in Crescent City? Our day trip included the scenic Howland Hill Road drive through the Redwoods, a short walk on Stout Grove Trail, taking pictures of the Battery Point Lighthouse, walking out on the B Street Pier, and dinner at Fisherman’s Restaurant. Don’t have time to read this now? Pin it for later!
Howland Hill Road
One of the recommended scenic drives in the Redwood National Park newspaper was Howland Hill Road. This is a ten-mile loop through the Redwoods. From US 101 you take Elk Valley Road to Howland Hill Road which eventually becomes an unpaved road. This is a great drive to see the Redwoods.
Stout Grove Trail
There are multiple hikes along this road including the Boy Scout Tree trail (5.5 miles), Mill Creek trail (6 miles), and Scout Grove Trail (0.50 miles). Since we only had a half-day we decided to walk the Stout Memorial Grove Trail. Even though this hike was very short, there were more fallen trees compared to any of our other hikes. This gave us a better opportunity to get closer to these fallen giants and gave me a better perspective of the size of these 300 foot Coast Redwoods.

Battery Point Lighthouse and B Street Pier
Once we got back to Crescent City we wanted to take some pictures of the Battery Point Lighthouse. This lighthouse is unique as it resides on an island and therefore it can only be accessed during low tide.
The lighthouse is open daily from 10 am and 4 pm April through September and on the weekends the other months of the year. You can call (707) 464-3089 during business hours to hear when the tide will allow access to the island. Unfortunately, we didn’t time our day trip correctly to access the island but I wish we would have.
Near the lighthouse is B Street Pier. We walked out on the pier and watched the sea lions. There were so many playing in the water. I have never seen sea lions be so active. They are usually sleeping.
Dinner at Fisherman's Restaurant
We meet my family at Fisherman's Restaurant for dinner. I had the Fish and Chips and Penguin had the Shrimp and Chips. Both were good but my Fish and Chips were better. If you are in Crescent City and craving Fish and Chips check out Fisherman’s Restaurant. I had such a great time laughing and catching up with my family that I didn’t get any pictures of our food.
